India's vocational education and training programs : is women's participation improving household incomes?

摘要: Thesis (M.P.P.)--Georgetown University, 2008.; Includes bibliographical references. India is currently pursuing major improvements to its vocational education and training (VET) programs. Studies have shown varied evidence that leads to improved labor market outcomes, both in developed and developing countries. However, studies indicate an increase women's participation the can improve household incomes while also empowering women improving their livelihoods. This thesis expands on research done by World Bank Government of determine if VET programs can be effective addressing poverty market, particularly as been under-represented due social cultural norms. However, this found for household income were not related education, employment status class important factors income. Despite fact unrelated income, improving it positive effects. Moreover, results suggest human capital investments limiting discrimination a result caste system were likely India.
