DEVELOPMENT OF GEOLOGICAL DISPOSAL SYSTEMS FOR SPENT FUELS AND HIGH-LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTES IN KOREA

摘要: Two different kinds of nuclear power plants produce a substantial amount spent fuel annually in Korea. According to the current projection, it is expected that around 60,000 MtU will be produced from 36 PWR and APR reactors 4 CANDU by end 2089. In 2006, KAERI proposed conceptual design geological disposal system (called KRS, Korean Reference System for fuel) fuel, as product 4-year research project 2003 2006. The major result was feasible construct direct 20,000 fuels 16,000 peninsula. Recently, MEST launched develop an advanced cycle based on pyroprocessing reduce HLW reuse valuable fissile material fuel. Thus, has developed high-level waste since 2007. However, no decision made improved density KRS introducing several concepts canister. this paper, systems so far are briefly outlined. characteristics HLW, canisters, buffer with domestic Ca-bentonite, results thermal deposition holes tunnels described. compared terms their density.
