Numerical computation of convective heat transfer in complex turbulent flows: time to abandon wall functions?

摘要: Abstract In applying finite-difference and other numerical approaches to the computation of elliptic or three-dimensional turbulent flows it is usual adopt wall functions bridge with a single cell very thin region adjacent where viscosity modifies turbulence structure. The paper suggests that such are now unnecessary from standpoint computational economy and, in many cases, may be replaced advantage by fine-grid, near-wall treatment extends computations through buffer zone itself. Examples given three currently being explored at UMIST abandonment wall-function approach has led marked improvement prediction convective heat transfer rates.
