The Sociology of Global Health: A Literature Review

摘要: Over the past two decades, a sociology of global health has emerged. While this new subfield takes up some themes and issues that are familiar to discipline as whole—among them organizations, social movements, construction illness—it also posed questions opened research pathways by formulating testing theory in environments radically different from United States. This work forced sociologists confront ethnocentrism paradigms grounded American experience consider classical assumptions constructs fruitful ways. Notable recent literature reviews have taken issue HIV/AIDS sub-Saharan Africa, comparative healthcare systems, development. However, review is first outline contours coherent health. It addresses several questions: What being emergent subfield? added value comes turning scholarly attention beyond our borders? And what agendas lie on horizon?
