摘要: During Intensive Observing Period (IOP) 2a of the Mesoscale Alpine Programme (MAP) a significant convective system developed in Lago Maggiore area. Its evolution is simulated using Meso-NH model run over three nested domains with 2 km horizontal resolution for finest grid. Model results are assessed by comparing computed precipitation and radar reflectivities observed parameters. A control simulation initialized European Centre Medium-Range Weather Forecasts analyses standard microphysical scheme yields fairly realistic results. Neglecting ice processes degrades numerical results, whereas, improvement obtained when heavy rimed particles considered to be hail instead graupel. Copyright © 2003 Royal Meteorological Society.
