摘要: Abstract Fyke netting is a convenient and effective technique for capturing freshwater eels, catch-per-unit-effort usually assumed to be an index of eel abundance. The present study investigated the potential depletion fishing using baited fyke nets obtain population estimates longfin eels Anguilla dieffenbachii Gray, in river South Island New Zealand. probability capture (capture efficiency) single night's increased with increasing size eel, ranged from 0.2 0.9 400 mm) but not shortfins (A. australis Richardson); efficiency longfins (the sum caught electric fished eels) was 0.4 netting, 0.8 over four nights. Comparable efficiencies were <0.1 0.3 respectively. Unbaited markedly less efficient both species.
