摘要: Depression and suicide are known to be intricately entwined but the neurobiological basis underlying this association is yet understood. Ketamine an N-methyl d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist used for induction maintenance of general anaesthesia paradoxically its euphoric effects lead classification under drugs abuse. The serendipitous finding rapid-onset antidepressant action subanaesthetic dosing with ketamine by intravenous infusion has sparked many preclinical clinical investigations. A remarkable suppression suicidal ideation was also reported in depressed patients. This review focuses on trials that remedial depression addresses molecular mechanisms psychotomimetic actions ketamine. neuropsychiatric profile doses encourages use management could avert emergent self-harm or suicide. Finally, need neuroimaging studies patients identify brain region specific temporal ketamine, possibility employing as experimental tool rodent-based study behaviour highlighted.
