摘要: Abstract The strain controlled low cycle fatigue properties and cyclic stress-strain response of a 4140 steel were investigated as functions tempering temperature. While as-quenched specimens showed hardening, at 200°C or higher resulted in softening which was maximum for 400°C tempering. hardening the quenched attributed to dynamic aging. Cyclic 400 550°C tempers part from rearrangement dislocation substructure reduction density shown by transmission electron microscope. Mechanical removal yield point also contributed dominant mode tempered 650°C. Removal an increase number mobile dislocations. On 650°C, failure Coffin-Manson relation observed. Agreement obtained when plastic amplitude plotted vs cycles crack initiation rather than failure. For 350°C higher, it is suggested that endurance limit essentially equal stress.
