摘要: As evidenced by the articles in this Special Issue, advent of digital image correlation (DIC) and related methods for accurate, full-field deformation mappings has reverberated throughout world experimental mechanics altered forever way which measurements are made analyses performed. No longer investigators limited to average or point-wise on general structures smaller components. Instead, a new vista opportunities specimen design is opening. Though paradigm shift may evolve slowly due prevalence existing restrictive standards certification-bound applications, there abundant evidence indicating that process well underway gaining momentum. In remainder Foreword, editors initially provide brief introduction special issue articles, providing framework issues addressed authors their relevance with regard DIC methods. Then, close out Foreword thoughts regarding past, current future developments they envision next several years Introduction Issue
