Deep eutectic assisted synthesis of carbon adsorbents highly suitable for low-pressure separation of CO2–CH4 gas mixtures

摘要: Ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents (a new class of ionic obtained by complexation quaternary ammonium salts with hydrogen bond donors such as acids, amines, alcohols among others) have been recently used even precursors in the synthesis carbonaceous materials. The use long-alkyl-chain derivatives that, playing role structure directing agents, were capable designing mesoporous resulting carbons is particular interest. Meanwhile, proved efficient tailoring comprised between large mesopores small macropores, but control over smaller ones (e.g. micropores) still a challenge compared to ILs. Herein, we composed resorcinol, 4-hexylresorcinol tetraethylammonium bromide for carbon monoliths tailor-made narrow microporosity. Behaving molecular sieves, these exhibited not only good capacities CO2 adsorption (up 3 mmol g−1) also an outstanding – especially at low pressures CO2–CH4 selectivity.
