摘要: There are well-known, substantial concerns that peoples' uses of water may significantly alter the quantity and quality water-cycle processes at local regional scales. Addressing these requires a substantially better understanding linkages feedback between various systems than presently is available. Although many studies have examined human-water dynamics, complexity such coupled not well understood as, among other causes, data tools for multidisciplinary natural scale available yet. The recent information communication technology advancements, collectively labeled as informatics (or hydroinformatics water-related domain), enable to address new class problems around organization leading knowledge extraction. Hydroinformatics embraces only methods capture, storage, processing, analysis graphical display, but use advanced modeling, optimization, knowledge-based computational infrastructure (cyberinfrastructure). This paper discusses initiation cyberinfrastructure-based Upper Mississippi River Basin Observatory (UMRBO). observatory would consist number interdisciplinary, multi-institutional teams synergistically collaborating on series research sites different locations within basin. no existing recipe establishing an this time, however, there vast amount experience can be shared help establish observatory. Building should collaborative, inclusive equitable process could used practical problem solving agenda linking abundance carried out in needs mission agencies stakeholders In order begin process, workshop was held, which international team scientists practitioners came together discuss how become reality.
