摘要: Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius L.) have resurged in the United States and globally. are hematophagous ectoparasites of humans other animals, including domestic pets, chickens, bats, their blood feeding habits contribute to potential as disease vectors. Several species Bartonella re-emergent bacterial pathogens that also affect humans, bats a number wildlife species. Because reports both bed been increasing U.S., because host ranges can overlap, we investigated whether resurgences these medically important vector might be linked, by screening for spp. collected from geographic areas where prevalent culture laboratory several years. We screened total 331 bugs: 316 36 unique collections 29 locations 13 states, 10 two colonies maintained 3 yr, 5 colony has since before recent resurgence bugs. DNA was using polymerase chain reaction assay targeting 16S–23S rRNA intergenic transcribed spacer region. not amplified any bug, but five four different apartments an elderly housing building North Carolina contained sequences corresponded Burkholderia multivorans, pathogen nosocomial infections previously linked arthropod vector.
