Design, calibration and calculation for flow-through respirometry systems

摘要: Flow-through respirometry systems that measure oxygen consumption (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2) and evaporative water loss (EWL) require the accurate calibration of flow meter three separate analysers (O2, CO2 H2O vapour). Correct measurement VO2, VCO2 EWL depends on incurrent air (VI) its condition (e.g. dry, CO2-free), excurrent (VE) which can differ in different parts circuit. Usually either VI or VE is measured other calculated from gas composition. I describe here a procedure for precise flow-through system by reference to calibrated O2 analyser, using small flame. Generic equations are derived calculation VO2 with variety configurations system. Procedures selection data continuous records minimal (basal standard) values briefly described.
