Education and employment: A preliminary study of female built environment undergraduate students in South Wales

摘要: Recently available figures for South Wales' university’s and college’s intake indicate a ratio of 83 male to 17 female students on undergraduate built environment courses. It could be contended that any increase in the numbers females attending such courses should reflect more at ‘coal face’ but what experiences, perceptions expectations while those courses? The respondents were questioned utilising semi-structured, digitally recorded discussions relation education, employment how why they arrived their careers determining influences choosing career path. Issues arose including poor advice, inappropriate work experience, lack peer support, general knowledge industry perception outmoded attitudes. aim is ultimately gain longitudinal view experiences over ‘life’ concurrent employment, ascertain time if respondent’s views have changed original met. suggested better understanding women’s through study may support sector improve number successful technicians.
