Average electric field behavior in the ionosphere above Arecibo

摘要: Plasma drift measurements taken at Arecibo during the solar minimum period of 1974-1977 are examined to determine their average behavior in E, F{sub 1}, and F regions. The drifts generally diurnal E region semidiurnal 1} region. These lower thermospheric set up by polarization fields generated propagating situ atmospheric tides. In component is more pronounced, especially zonal direction. magnitude order 25-30 m/s (or 1 mV/m). Enhanced geomagnetic activity appears increase westward agreement with theory ionospheric disturbance dynamo (Blanc Richmond, 1980). Nighttime appear be least partly explained terms fields.
