摘要: This article investigates how Norwegian immigrants expressed their sense of belonging during the antebellum period. By focusing on concept “belonging” rather than “adjustment,” attempts an interpretation sensitive to themselves perceived process adaptation American society. The Civil War is usually referred as a sort watershed in Norwegians' adjustment society, and consequently scholars have downplayed extent which United States prior War. Identifying three main categories expressions available – namely land ownership, place attachment, settler ideology concludes that even if these did not readily identify Americans, they became firmly attached new home.
