Trazodone for aggression in an adolescent with hydrocephalus

摘要: A case of 19 year old male with hydrocephalus is reported whose aggressive self-injurious behaviors were resistant to conventional pharmacotherapy but successfully treated by trazodone. In addition the behaviors, this patient displayed withdrawal and eating refusal, which initially resulted in his admission a psychiatric ward. Various treatments (e.g., tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics anticonvulsants) combination psychotherapy family therapy proved not be effective for 15 months. Neither was electroconvulsive successful. Administration trazodone 5 months after tapering above agents improved behaviors. survey previous cases organic brain syndromes who had responded well revealed that most aged individuals adolescence are rare.
