摘要: Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) movements were investigated with Global Position System (GPS) telemetry from 2007 to 2008 along a 28-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 89 in northern Arizona develop strategies enhance permeability future highway reconstruction. Research objectives to: 1. Assess pronghorn movement patterns and distribution determine permeability. 2. Investigate the relationships vehicular traffic volume. 3. influence fencing on crossing 4. pronghorn-vehicle collision patterns. 5. Develop recommendations The team tracked 37 (20 females, 17 males) GPS receiver collars. Of 118,181 fixes, 1,125 occurred within 0.15 mile US 89, 3,794 0.30 mile. Only one crossed during two years tracking. mean passage rate was negligible 0.006 crossings/approach. No collisions vehicles recorded study. In total, 5,035 weighted approaches, number animals/segment, five other criteria used 0.6-mile segments for suitability as structure locations. recommended 3.2-mile spacing between structures three sites integrated noise reduction measures.
