摘要: Past research has focused on identifying barriers that American Indian college students experience in attempting to complete programs higher educational systems. Recommendations reduce these have not significantly decreased attrition rates or increased the completion of this minority group. Nationally, nursing professionals recognize shortage minorities field nursing. Likewise, need for health care providers is growing direct proportion number issues facing population. This grounded theory study enablers supported success baccalaureate graduates between years 1986 and 1995 a western university. Through constant comparative analysis 18 interviews, four core variables emerged. The interactive are individual student, instructor, institutions (university nursing), external influences. article focuses variable student following seven properties support success: goal, adjusts dominant cultural, invests self-assessment, develops assertive skills, establishes community, socializes into roles nurse, masters content. central create gestalt promotes success. implications faculty, their as advisor can assist development maintenance properties. be achieved through proactive culturally responsive advisement, creation relevant environment, use humanistic andragogical approaches teaching-learning processes.
