摘要: Stereotype threat occurs when people who belong to socially devalued groups experience a fear of negative evaluation, which interferes with the goal staying task focused. The current study was designed examine whether priming individuals an implemental (vs. deliberative) mindset, characterized by forming priori goal-directed plans, would help these overcome threat-induced distracting states. Participants from low and high socioeconomic status backgrounds (measured maternal education; SESm ) completed speeded mental arithmetic test, intellectually threatening task. Low-SESm performed comparably exhibited similar confidence levels high-SESm counterparts only induced suggesting that mindset may create equity in face stereotype threat.
