摘要: The states that make up the Legal Amazon Region, which include state of Maranhao, account for 99% registered cases human malaria in Brazil. It is also believed transmission from nonhuman primates (NHP) to humans occurs this region, because current reports seroepidemiological results samples and NHP coexisting same areas. This study aimed morphological, serological molecular diagnoses Plasmodium spp. neotropical on island Sao Luis, diagnostic techniques used were optical microscopy, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA). From June 2009 April 2010, 70 sampled: 50 at Wild Animal Screening Center (CETAS), located municipality Luis 20 free-living individuals caught a private reserve Jose de Ribamar, Maranhao. Under an microscope, 140 slides (two each animal) evaluated five animals (7.1%) found be positive. IFA did not detect anti-Plasmodium PCR sampled, amplified products observed 13 samples, eight (61.5%) (38.5%) CETAS.
