摘要: Objectives General practice is experiencing a growing crisis with the numbers of doctors who are training and then entering profession in UK failing to keep pace workforce needs. This study investigated immediate medium term career intentions those about become general practitioners (GPs) factors that influencing plans. Design Online questionnaire survey, quantitative answers analysed using descriptive statistics free text data thematic framework approach. Setting participants Doctors approaching end 3-year GP vocational West Midlands, England. Results 178 (57.2%) completed survey. Most planned work as salaried GPs or locums rather than partnership for at least first 5 years post-completion training; others failed express plan leave completely overseas. Many were interested developing portfolio careers. The quality experience across undergraduate, foundation reported personal plans, particular perceptions workload pressure morale within practices which they had been placed. Experience poor work–life balance trainee negative effect on intentions, did how portrayed by politicians media. Conclusion describes number potentially modifiable related programmes detrimentally plans newly trained GPs. In addition, there sociodemographic factors, such age, gender having children, also so need be accommodated. With ever-increasing practice, an urgent understand where possible address these issues national local level.
