摘要: Mitochondria are the sandbox of evolution as exemplified most particularly by diplonemids, a group marine microeukaryotes. These protists uniquely characterized their highly multipartite mitochondrial genome and systematically fragmented genes whose pieces spread out over several dozens chromosomes. The type species Diplonema papillatum was first member this in which expression investigated experimentally. We now know that gene involves separate transcription (modules), RNA editing module transcripts, joining to mature mRNAs rRNAs. mechanism cognate recognition ligation is distinct from known intron splicing remains be uncovered. Here, we review current status research on architecture, well complement, structure, modes diplonemids. Further, discuss potential molecular mechanisms posttranscriptional processing, finally reflect evolutionary trajectories trends mtDNA seen protist group. © 2018 IUBMB Life, 70(12):1197-1206, 2018.
