Deforestation, development, and government policy in the Brazilian Amazon: an econometric analysis

摘要: This paper develops a model of deforestation and economic development in the Amazon. It is based on determinants demand for agricultural land, i.e. interactions between population dynamics, urbanization growth local markets, land prices, government policies. The estimated using panel data set covering 316 municipalities Brazilian Amazon during period 1970/85. used to evaluate effects different policy instruments. trade-off shown be quite good subsidized credit but very bad new road building.
