Repair of non-understanding in English in international communication

摘要: ABSTRACT:  The international use of English as a lingua franca (ELF) – i.e. between non-native speakers different nationalities, in situations where no native are present has become an important feature business, diplomacy, education, and personal relationships around the world. Nowhere is this more true than Northeast Asia, cultural, economic, educational interchanges Korea, Japan, China, other countries region increasingly conducted English. This paper discusses exploratory study on ELF by small group university students Seoul, South with focus communication strategies used to repair non-understanding participants. After summarising findings from previous research, outlines methodology current study, which was videotaping, transcribing, analysing interactions group, comprising one Mongolian five Korean study's participants' then discussed; finally, some tentative conclusions makes recommendations for future research.
