摘要: By using a tungsten wire with 75-/spl mu/m diameter, 2 cm apart from plane cathode, and applying 600-ns, 120-kV square wave pulse, we were able to obtain pulsed-water corona discharge (PWC). The effect of these discharges on bacteria was studied water contaminated Escherichia coli or Bacillus subtilis, the latter in both vegetative spore state. strongest obtained E. coli. concentration could be reduced by three orders magnitude after eight water. corresponding energy expenditure is 10 J/cm/sup 3/. decontamination rate had largest values at beginning, decreased considerably 15 electrical discharges, reaching constant residual value 10/sup -4/ initial concentration. For B. subtilis state, it took almost 30 reach same result, an 40 There no spores. Comparisons pulsed-electric field (PEF) method indicate that efficiency PWC slightly higher than PEF method.
