摘要: The Earth is a cold planet. About 85% of the biosphere exposed to temperatures below 5°C throughout year. Cold habitats span from Arctic Antarctic, high mountain range environments deep ocean. major fraction this low-temperature environment represented by sea (nearly 75% covered oceans and 90% ocean volume 5°C), followed snow (35% land surface), permafrost (24% ice (13% Earth’s surface) glaciers (10% surface). Psychrophilic microorganisms, including bacteria, archaea, yeasts, filamentous fungi algae, have successfully colonized these environments, because they evolved special mechanisms overcome life-endangering influence low temperature. This chapter describes microbial adaptation aspects activity biodiversity in alpine soils.
