Psychosocial Correlates of Smoking Trajectories Among Urban African American Adolescents

摘要: Little is known of smoking trajectories or the correlates among African American youth. Ninth-grade adolescents (n = 566) were interviewed in Year 1 and then subsequently annually for 3 additional years. Five cigarette smokers identified: abstainers, experimenters/consistent light smokers, consistent regular accelerators, quitters. Psychological well-being at was lower accelerators as compared to abstainers. Variance other problem behaviors mirrored smoker trajectories. At 4,the abstainers reported greater participation sports activities quitters, whereas school smokers.
