摘要: Retinal degenerative diseases resulting in photoreceptor death, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP) lead to incurable vision loss millions of patients worldwide. When photoreceptors are lost, the visual deficit is permanent. Currently, there no effective therapies for these except delay early disease stages. A potential approach regaining more advanced replace degenerated photoreceptors. Particularly, this a viable strategy AMD it has been shown that ganglion cells can survive degenerate retina even when severe underlying (1). Finding suitable source transplantable dying host tissue main challenge.
