A 'Stages of Change' Approach to Helping Patients Change Behavior

摘要: Helping patients change behavior is an important role for family physicians. Change interventions are especially useful in addressing lifestyle modification disease prevention, long-term management and addictions. The concepts of "patient noncompliance" motivation often focus on patient failure. Understanding readiness to make change, appreciating barriers helping anticipate relapse can improve satisfaction lower physician frustration during the process. In this article, we review Transtheoretical Model Change, also known as Stages model, discuss its application practice setting. Readiness Ruler Agenda-Setting Chart two simple tools that be used office promote discussion.
