摘要: ASes in inter-domain routing receive little information about the quality of routes they receive. This lack can lead to inefficient and even incorrect routing. In this paper, we quantitatively characterize BGP announcements that violate so-called valley- free property-an indicator universal best practices are not being preserved propagation routes. Our analysis indicates valley more pervasive than expected. Approximately ten thousand appear every day involve a substantial number prefixes. 11 % provider propagate announcements, with majority violations happening at intermediate providers. We find large surges violating be attributed transient configuration errors. further propose dynamic mechanism provides route as transitive attributes BGP. implicitly reflects policies along path, without revealing relationship each AS pair. BGP-speaking routers use identify (and presumably avoid) valley-free property.
