摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses altimetry and the tropical oceans along with Pacific because it is important for short-term climate thus most studied. With some discussion on Indo-Pacific throughflow, describes Indian Ocean followed by Atlantic. a width nearly half circumference of earth, far largest three oceans. It subject to self-sustained air-sea coupled oscillation interannual time-scales, which basis El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). From an oceanic point view, equatorial separated into cold tongue in east warm pool west. The signature wind-driven coastal upwelling. exists atmospheric heat fluxes at low latitudes lack water entrainment from below. maintained western as result trade winds associated westward surface currents.
