摘要: The boom of tanneries in north India has converted the river Ganga into a waste dumping stream. discharge their heavy metal-rich effluents river. Tissues two-year-old tree saplings Dalbergia sissoo, soil sediments and water samples were collected from three sites along at Jajmau, Kanpur. Site-1 was located 1 km upstream point tanneries, Site-2 close to source point, Site-3 about downstream point. Accumulation Cu, Cr Ni leaves, bark, wood growth rings, estimated using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. tissues rings D. sissoo accumulated large amounts Cr, Cu Ni. concentration bark had strong, positive linear correlation (r2) with sediments. bio-concentration factors (BCFs) higher than wood, leaves all selected sites, indicating strong phytoremediating ability tree. uptake consistent two successive years. Owing accumulating abilities as evident high BCF values biomass, we propose suitable species for phytoremediation throughout its range distribution Africa, Asia Americas.
