摘要: Initially intended for nutrient uptake, phagocytosis represents a central mechanism of debris removal and host defense against invading pathogens through the entire animal kingdom. In vertebrates also many invertebrates, macrophages (MFs) MF-like cells (e.g., coelomocytes hemocytes) are professional phagocytic that seed tissues to maintain homeostasis pathogen killing, efferocytosis tissue shaping, repair, remodeling. Some MF functions common all species tissues, whereas others specific their homing tissue. Indeed, shaped by microenvironment, MFs become adapted perform particular functions, highlighting great plasticity giving rise high population diversity. Interestingly, gut displays several anatomic functional compartments with large pools strikingly diversified populations. This review focuses on recent advances intestinal in species, which have allowed infer specificity functions.
