摘要: Abstract Organ cultures of hamster, porcine, and guinea pig trachea were exposed in vitro to different types concentrations carbon particles. At intervals thereafter, morphological changes the mucosa documented by light, scanning, transmission electron microscopy. Secretory cells formed prominent polymorphic cytoplasmic protuberances that partially filled with secretory granules within minutes after addition cultures. These processes produced particles various sizes; their number increased medium. Differentiated epithelium sloughed exposure for several hours. Subsequently, basal cell hyperplasia was observed. Larger (⩾ 15 μm) occasionally squamous metaplasia epithelium. Smaller (0.5 – 1μm) transported submucosa, where they taken up mesenchymal cells. studies show responds a unique, but characteristic, fashion.
