摘要: Are there “fates worse than death,” to use Kurt Vonnegut’s title? Is captivity one such fate? Captive for Life examines these questions through the lens of conservation biology’s ex situ models captive management — and breeding in particular wild animals, especially species that have been designated as Critically Endangered or Extinct Wild. Drawing on interviews with leading biologists, chapter describes erosion distinctions between nature, often referred among experts conservation. The situations which extinction, near-extinction, a is imminent, program initiated typically by zoos ensure this species’ survival. Finally, I hint toward possibility abandoning “in” “out” paradigm, has so characterized modern narratives, favor an understanding focuses more dynamic less predetermined view ecosystems populations. Such holistic model breaks bifurcations offer relational configurations managing life.
