摘要: Abstract We consider the implications of recent determination universal infrared background for propagation photons up to 20 TeV from active galaxy Markarian 501 as observed by HEGRA. At mean free path photon–photon collisions on would be much shorter than distance 501, implying absorption factors order exp(−10), or greater, and consequently an excessive power output this galaxy. Possible solutions problem are discussed.
