摘要: From crown-thinning of spruce it has been estimated that one-third the mountain forests in Bavarian Alps are severely damaged (Kennel 1990). Photo-oxidants transported above inversion layers have thought to be responsible for damage observed these (Seiler 1988; Fabian As 03 is a key product photo-oxidative chain reactions troposphere and tropospheric concentrations change with increasing altitude, implicated as central cause this forest decline 1988). Climatic stress, nutrient deficiencies, management genetic properties trees also considered predisposing or triggering factors (Rennenberg Reuther 1991). The general objective studies performed at Wank research site test hypothesis using an interdisciplinary approach. To meet objective, scientists working forestry, meteorology, air chemistry, tree physiology, soil sciences, ecology taxonomy participated which lasted almost decade. individual objectives were (1) characterize particular stand, especially atmospheric pedospheric environment, assess vitality nutritional status (2) identify those physiological parameters exhibit changes altitude similar associated In chapter, results obtained summarized. addition, question addressed whether altitude-dependent studied provide evidence stress trees, can connected observed, result O3 exposure.
