摘要: Rabies virus, the prototype species in family Rhabdoviridae, is a single-stranded, RNA, negative-sense, nonsegmented virus of genus Lyssavirus; it causal agent rabies, disease that has been poorly studied most developing countries (1,2). Nonetheless, Brazil implemented rabies control measures, and urban human transmitted by dogs cats, decreased from 73 cases 1990 to 17 2003 (3). Carnivores bats are primary reservoirs all continents, bat-transmitted relatively commonly diagnosed Latin American Caribbean (1,4–6). In Brazil, small number have confirmed as having vampire bat bites (7,8), but because surveillance improved last few years, occurrence sporadic episodes suggests situation similar observed other (5,9,10). Indeed, ≈39 reported United States since 1950s, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, New World (1,5,6,9,11,12). Although measures many South countries, transmission increased become public health concern, several detected. Outbreaks occurred remote areas Peru (5,13), Venezuela (9), more recently (7). This article reports results an epidemiologic investigation antigenic genetic characterization isolated during outbreaks March May 2004 Portel Viseu municipalities, respectively, Para State, Brazilian Amazon region.
