摘要: Despite recommendations for rapidly initiating HIV treatment, many persons in sub-Saharan Africa present to care with advanced disease. Baseline survey and clinical data were collected on 1799 adults newly enrolling at 32 district hospitals local health clinics rural Ethiopia. Among those complete disease information, (defined as CD4 count <200 cells/mm3 or World Health Organization [WHO] stage III IV disease) was 66% of males 56% females ( P < .001). Males (compared females) had lower counts (287 versus 345 cells/mm3), body mass index (19.3 kg/m2 20.2 kg/m2), more WHO (46% 37%), Men reported chronic diarrhea, fevers, cough, pain, fatigue, weight loss .05). Most this resource-limited setting poorer status, supporting the importance earlier diagnosis, linkage care, initiation antiretroviral therapy.
