摘要: The vertebrate brain continues to produce new neurons throughout life. In the rat hippocampus, several thousand are produced each day, many of which die within weeks. Associative learning can enhance their survival; however, until now it was unknown whether involved in memory formation. Here we show that a substantial reduction number newly generated adult impairs hippocampal-dependent trace conditioning, task an animal must associate stimuli separated time. A similar did not affect when same time, is hippocampal-independent. neurogenesis induce death mature hippocampal or permanently alter neurophysiological properties CA1 region, such as long-term potentiation. Moreover, recovery cell production associated with ability acquire memories. These results indicate only affected by formation memory, but also participate it.
