摘要: Despite substantial contrary evidence, there has been a growing tendency to present prescribed vegetation burning as management practice that is always damaging peatland ecosystems in the UK. This exemplified by “Burning and Peatlands” position statement published International Union for Conservation of Nature UK Peatland Programme. Indeed, while we strongly agree with several statements made within this statement, it also contains series unverified assertions misleading arguments seemingly serve simplify narrative paint burning wholly tool. Given one UK’s most prominent conservation organisations, likely be consulted when debating upland land use policy. Therefore, benefit policymakers, provide point-by-point critical review statement. We discuss further points researchers policymakers consider are consistently ignored those attempting about burning. Our aim producing discussion paper encourage research policy community move towards an evidence-based impacts on peatlands.
