摘要: ABSTRACT The major basin for Pleistocene marine sediments of the northern Gulf Coast lies beneath outer edge present Texas-Louisiana Continental Shelf. depocenter contains more than 4,000 m (>13,000 ft) alternating sand and shale deposits. Wells drilled in penetrate at least seven cyles transgressive-regressive strata, which are related to eustatic changes sea level. Nineteen new biostratigraphic ecostratigraphic foraminiferal zones provide closely spaced correlations facies that range from coastal-plain sands continental slope shales. These show wells along margin contain erosional unconformities formed during regressions. Planktic foraminifers calcareous nannofossils define transition between Pliocene allow correlation with stratotype Italy paleomagnetically dated deep-sea cores. Detailed analyses illustrations provided foraminifera observed Phillips Offshore Stratigraphic Test (COST) No. 1 well, November, 1974, off Brownsville, Texas.
