摘要: A contact-mechanics analysis was used to explain a tactile illusion engendered by straining the fingertip skin tangentially in progressive wave pattern resulting perception of moving undulating surface. We derived strain tensor field induced sinusoidal surface sliding on finger as well created transducer array deforming fingerpad lateral traction. found that first could be approximated second. Our results have several implications. First, displays using deformation can generate sensations similar those normal deformation. Second, synthesis approach achieve this result if some constraints design stimulators are met. Third, mechanoreceptors embedded must respond deviatoric part and not its volumetric part. Finally, many stimuli might represent, for brain, an inverse problem solved, such specific examples “tactile metameres” given.
