From recording balances to thermogravimetric instruments and back

摘要: Brief history of evolution thermogravimetry (TG) and recording balances (RB) is provided. The recent emergence new applications TG instruments: catalysis, reactive analytical TG, making or modifying materials (high-temperature gas–solid reactions, chemical vapor deposition infiltration, carburization, nitridation), addressed to attention researchers manufacturers. Procedures enabling in demanding environments: vacuum, corrosive gases contaminating fumes and/or condensable vapors, are discussed. New business opportunities for manufacturers, postulating available flexible, research-oriented instruments, balanced with suggested organizational changes the thermoanalytical community that would ease manufacturers’ burden advanced application problems. RB presented as a background desired improvements instrumentation.
