Canadian-American Environmental Relations: A Case Study of the Ontario-Michigan Municipal Solid Waste Dispute

摘要: Canada and the United States are faced with many cross-border environmental issues therefore must negotiate potential solutions one another. Complicating such negotiations is fact that both countries federal systems which require decision-making interactions amongst various levels of government domestically which, in turn, influence influenced by bilateral relations. Therefore, this study focuses on governmental relations within each country (intergovernmental relations) between two (bilateral/international relations). Using Ontario-Michigan Municipal Solid Waste dispute (1996-2006) as a case study, thesis advances an organizational framework for examination role formal informal shaping policy. Through application framework, it revealed level U.S. prevented sub-national local authorities from effectively developing solution to dispute. Future studies apply used other needed order determine whether conclusions hold true all cross border disputes.
