摘要: Network bandwidth has always been a key issue for multimedia protocols. Many potential users of networked protocols will continue to have low network connections some time: copper wire ISDN, infra-red, cellular modems, etc.. Compression provides relief slow networks by increasing effective bandwidth. Higher Bandwidth X (HBX) introduces new technique, based on arithmetic coding and statistical modeling, compressing structured data. Applied the graphics protocol, this technique yields 6.3:1 compression across representative set traces, performing twice as well popular LZW-based Xremote protocol. HBX's techniques are generally applicable imaging subset Future work determine whether can be applied audio video streams well.
