摘要: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of interrelatedrisk factors -including obesity, atherogenicdyslipidemia, hypertension, and insulin resistance,which exponentially increase the risk developing cardiovasculardisease type 2 diabetes mellitus. purposeof this cross-sectional study to determine prevalence ofMetS according International Diabetes Federation (IDF)and last harmonizing MetS criteria in adult individuals ofboth sexes from San Jose de Cucuta, Colombia, mediumsizecity belonging North Santander Department,with population 587.676 inhabitants the2005 census information conducted by National StatisticAdministrative Department (DANE) with projection 2017of 662.765 persons. Likewise, DANE projects that 68.5%(454.077 hab) Cucutan will be over 18 yearsby 2017, so that, using these data, sample size for SanJose Cucuta 2200 persons 95% confidenceinterval maximum accepted sampling error 5%.Data derived both, medical laboratory examination(smoking habit, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, alcoholconsumption, nutritional habits, physical activity byIPAQ, blood pressure, anthropometry, chemistryand endocrinology panel) trainedhealth professionals students.There clear lack evidence regarding prevalenceof cardio-metabolic local cut-off points forbiological quantitative variables i.e. abdominal circumference,body mass index, fasting insulin, Homeostasis ModelAssessment, among others. In near future, studywill contribute new evidence, providing firsthandaccurateevidence about behavior our country.
