摘要: Sampling on a single night or day within month is common in studies of reproduction and abundance aquatic invertebrates, but patterns from month-to-month may be confounded by variability at smaller time-scales. We used hierarchical sampling two estuaries to test the hypothesis that temporal reproductive condition, relative size-structures populations Metapenaeus bennettae Racek Dall, 1965 would greater larger scales months seasons than weeks nights. In both estuaries, variation proportion mature/ripe females mean M. was often largest nights weeks, size-frequency distributions generally scale seasons. Our results demonstrate future any species with potential for high population structure, like penaeids, should incorporate examine need small-scale sampling.
