摘要: Abstract Objective Chronic neutropenia of childhood (CNC) is a rare disorder in which the absolute neutrophil count below 1500/μL over an extended period time. The objective this study to describe otolaryngolgic manifestations associated with CNC facilitate diagnosis and treatment condition. Methods materials We performed retrospective chart review patients between 1970 2005 at tertiary pediatric hematology center. After Institutional Review Board approval, 43 were evaluated. average age hematologic was 49 months (range: 1 month – 15 years 35% 10 years). A total 2049 encounters analyzed from hospital charts. Results Twenty four subjects (56%) presented recurrent otitis media (ROM), sinusitis or pharyngo-tonsillitis, while 11% oral mucosal lesions. diagnosis, otolaryngologic problems persisted, including ROM (81%), viral upper respiratory tract infection (67%), ulcers gingivitis (53%), tonsillitis (39%) (37%) more common than other systemic infections. Myringotomy tube placement, endoscopic sinus debridement, adeno-tonsillectomy tracheostomy required 42% patients. G-CSF (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor) became available early 1990s, rate markedly decreased. Five deaths occurred (12% mortality) one due sepsis infection. Conclusion majority children had presentation these continued after diagnosis. While managing infections children, high index suspicion for chronic necessary. An otolaryngologist frequently first physicians encounter Awareness its management will enhance earlier effective children.
